Depending on the type of hunting you do, be it hut, gabion, or pass, and the effects you want to achieve by adding plastic decoys to the surface of the water, you will have to decide on various plastic decoys, which you will then have to assemble and secure. Clément, one of our waterfowl hunting enthusiasts, shares some of his tips with you on how to choose your artificial decoys.
There are black plastic decoys that are more suitable for hunting in huts or blinds to create a mass effect on the pond. This will direct the bird's pose in order to shoot it as close as possible to the structures. On average, between ten and fifteen are placed per decoy pattern.
For pass hunting, the use of realistic plastic decoys known as "high definition" is preferred. Their effectiveness depends on the amount of work carried out on volumes, postures, colours, and behaviour on the water, or buoyancy, to obtain a shape that is as close as possible to the actual wild animal.
Finally, depending on the county (département) and local legislation, duck decoys with rotating wings, known as "mojos", can be used. They simulate a duck's arrival at the hunting ground, flush with the water. They are used to attract wild ducks even closer so that they can be picked off under the best conditions.
